Donegal County Board appeal for fundraising support

Donegal GAA
BY CHRIS MCNULTY

COUNTY Chairman Seán Dunnion has appealed to GAA members and clubs in Donegal to row in behind the County Board’s fundraising efforts ahead of Sunday-week’s Ulster football finals.

For the first time in eight years, Donegal will have both the minor and senior football teams competing in the Ulster final.

“Given that we have the two teams in the Ulster final, expenditure will be very sore,” the Chairman told delegates at Monday’s county committee meeting in Ballybofey.

“I would appeal to people to support our various fundraising efforts.”

A general knowledge quiz will be held on Friday 18th July, €5 per person with four people per team.

A golf classic will be held in Rosapenna on Friday 18th July. Teams of 4 cost €100 with tee or green sponsorship €50. To book a tee-time please contact Con Boyce 074-9167817 or Aidan Cannon on 087-1223177. Clubs have also been asked to source members for the newly-launched Our Donegal scheme. Our Donegal membership is €500 per annum. Individual membership is available at €50 or €20 for under-16s.

The County Board has also secured a permit to allow them stage a bucket collection throughout Donegal on Saturday, July 19th. Ballybofey, Carndonagh and Gweedore are not available on that day. 25 per cent of monies collected can be retained by the club.

The County Board’s coffers have been boosted with the arrival of the National League distributions. Donegal received €69,527 from the National Football League and a further €10,234 from the National Hurling League campaign. Donegal reached the Division 2 football final, losing to Monaghan, while the hurlers won Division 3A. The monies leaves the Board’s number one account showing a €96,000 balance, but with substantial erosion to come leading into the Ulster finals.

County Treasurer Cieran Kelly also recorded thanks to those involved in securing a €25,000 grant from Donegal County Council towards the development of the Donegal GAA Training Centre in Convoy.
