DONEGAL chiefs are confident that Michael Murphy has not suffered serious damage in a knee injury picked up last night in Croke Park.
The Glenswilly man will undergo a scan this morning at the Sports Surgery Clinic in Santry to assess the injury, but the county management are hopeful that their star man will be able to play in the crucial final League game with Armagh in Easter Sunday.
Murphy was forced off ten minutes from the end of the clash with Dublin and had appeared to be in some distress when attempting to play on.
Donegal assistant manager Rory Gallagher shed some positive news on the captain’s situation.
“We don’t think that it’s anything serious, but he’ll have the scan and we’ll know more after that,” Gallagher said. “We don’t believe it to be a cruciate or anything, though there might be a little bit of ligament damage.
“We’re hoping that he’ll be available for the Armagh game.”
Donegal also hope to have Colm McFadden availablet to face Armagh.
The St Michael’s man picked up a hamstring injury in training last week and missed the Dublin game after failing to come through a fitness test in Ashbourne on Saturday.
Jim McGuinness said after the Dublin game: “He just didn’t feel comfortable with it and we didn’t want to put him under any pressure where he might pull it, so it was more erring on the side of caution.”
