JIM McGuinness is confident that Neil Gallagher and Rory Kavanagh will be fit in time for the Ulster SFC final on July 20th.
Gallagher was forced out of last Sunday’s semi-final win over Antrim after feeling a reoccurence of a recent hamstring injury, while Kavanagh was not fit to tog because of a problem with a synergist muscle.
Kavanagh missed the previous round win over Derry through a suspension, while Gallagher has had his share of injury issues during the year.
“We’d be hopeful on their recover now because they’re well on track,” McGuinness told the Donegal News.
“Rory will be ten days now on Saturday so we’d hope by the beginning of the week that he’d be ready to go and Neil’s was a minor nick on the hamstring. He’s ten days as well, so it’s nothing wild major that we have to worry about.”
Both players took a part in Tuesday evening’s training session in Convoy, undergoing rehab work.
Karl Lacey, who also sat out last Sunday’s 3-16 to 0-12 win in Clones, was ‘back at it full steam’, according to the manager. The former Footballer of the Year was among the substitutes on Sunday after being left out because of a hamstring strain.
“Karl was back in with us and he could have played a part, but we didn’t want to take too many risks,” McGuinness said.
“If the game was another day or two later he would have been in from the start alright. With the injuries that he has had we wanted to manage him as best we could.”
Donegal are into their fourth successive Ulster SFC final and await the winners of Saturday’s second semi-final between Monaghan and Armagh, which takes place in Clones. McGuinness will be in attendance at St Tiernach’s Park, as will the minor manager, Declan Bonner, whose Donegal minors also await the winners of the minor semi between Monaghan and Armagh.
