DONEGAL GAA clubs are eagerly awaiting news of their ticket allocation for the May 25th Ulster Championship clash between Donegal and Derry at Celtic Park.

The game will be a 17,000 sell-out with the Donegal County Board having received an allocation of 5,549, while hopes are high that they’ll be given an additional 500 by the Ulster Council.

At Tuesday night’s meeting of the Donegal county committee, it was confirmed that clubs’ allocations will again be based on membership.

As of March 31, there were 11,189 registered adult members in Donegal, between one club with 1,201 members down to another with 126. With less than 6,000 tickets to distribute, there could be another scramble on the cards.

County Secretary Aodh Máirtín Ó Fearraigh told Tuesday’s meeting that ‘the picture isn’t clear on the allocation’, but confirmed that there were 5,549 tickets for distribution. The secretary added: “Any additional tickets will go to the clubs.”

Of the 5,549 tickets, clubs will get 3,991, or 88 per cent of the total allocation.

There are 843 season ticket holders in Donegal, who are all entitled to a ticket, while others will be put aside to be distributed among  senior and minor panels, backroom teams, sponsors, executive members and coaches while a small amount of contingency tickets will be set aside.

Two weeks ago, 2,000 tickets for the game sold out within two days after being made available for purchase online and in Centra and SuperValu outlets and last week, Ulster Council President Martin McAviney, confirmed that the full-house signs are being readied.

He said: “The interest has been massive so far and we’re heading for a sell-out. We are confident, with the level of interest and with the sales that we have already had, that we’ll have a 17,000 capacity game at Celtic Park.”
