Donegal clinch Ulster title after late O’Donnell winner

Niall O’Donnell kicked the winning point as Donegal claimed the Ulster SFC title after an extra-time epic with Armagh in Clones today.

Donegal played some brilliant football in the first half.

Oisin Gallen and Ciaran Thompson were on song and Donegal were seven ahead after 32 minutes.

However, they lost their way late in the half and that meant Armagh were still in contention at the break.

Armagh cut their lead to one at the start of the second half before Hugh McFadden scored a goal in the 44th minute.

Donegal were able to push nine ahead but Armagh came back strongly and a last-gasp score from Oisin Conaty sent the match to extra-time.

The sides swapped two points apiece in the first half of extra-time. Stefan Campbell nudged the Orchard men ahead before Ciaran Moore grabbed a second Donegal goal in the 83rd minute.

Ethan Rafferty levelled proceedings with a two-pointer but substitute Niall O’Donnell had the final say with a point off his weaker left foot.
