Donegal branch members of the Ireland Palestinian Solidarity Campaign will travel to Dublin on Saturday to take part in a national demonstration as the situation in Gaza deteriorates by the hour.
Speaking to Donegal News ahead of the event organiser Fadl Mustapha expressed frustration that concerns being expressed by campaigners in Donegal appear to be falling on deaf ears.
“Rafah in southern Gaza is facing slaughter but this is only getting recognition after 30,000 people were killed. Politicians are now saying that action must be taken because Rafah has 1.4 million people but where can they go back to?” asks Mr. Mustapha.
Activists claim that an alarming 70% of the casualties in Gaza are women and children, highlighting what they deem as the unjustifiable delay in action from the Irish Government, EU leaders, and the United States. They criticise the initial stance of granting Israel the right to defend itself, arguing that it’s only after a devastating toll of 30,000 lives lost that calls for intervention are being made.
“There is so much hypocrisy. It’s a case of, we will allow a certain number of ‘these people’ to die before we become conscious about it. There is a lot of cheap talk.
“The Americans could have seized funding to Israel’s Government but instead the White House continues to send billions of dollars. It is a disgrace,” suggests Mr. Mustapha.
