DONEGAL boxing enthusiasts are looking forward to a rare treat next Friday, August 8, when the Donegal Boxing Board hosts an open air tournament at Shamrock Park, Clonmany.
It will be the first open air show in the county since the mid-90s when a similar event took place in Letterkenny’s O’Donnell Park. Next week’s show is being run as part of the Clonmany Festival.
Letterkenny’s crowd pleaser Stephen Doherty will be up against Sean McHale from Ballinacarrow, County Sligo, while big Michael McConigley, also from Letterkenny ABC, will be up against Niall Gallagher from Manorhamilton.
Another cracking bout sees Letterkenny man Brian Elliot take on Finn Valley’s European bronze medalist Leon Gallagher in what promises to be a blood boiler. Finn Valley’s Irish Boy 2 champion Eoin ‘The Bullet’ McGarrell will also be taking to the canvas in Clonmany.
Ryan Devine from Strabane – who won a national cadet title in Dublin last Friday – will square up to Buncrana man Stephen Bonner in another confirmed match up.
Also in action will be Twin Towns heavyweight Danny Tourish, who done a lot of sparring with a Oakleaf ABC’s Sean McGlinchey who booked himself onto the medals table at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this week.
Dungloe’s Jim McCole is the matchmaker for the show and a full list of bouts will be available next week.
Boxing will get underway at 2pm.
