Former Donegal manager Jim McGuinness

THE Donegal County Board meet tonight to begin the process of selecting a successor to Jim McGuinness.
The 2012 All-Ireland winning manager confirmed on Friday night that he was stepping down from a position he held for four years.
McGuinness conveyed his decision to his players, backroom team and members of the executive in a text message late on Friday night.
After a golden period in charge McGuinness left Donegal having won three Ulster championships as well as capturing Sam Maguire in 2012 and he guided the county back to the All-Ireland final this year, but was beaten by Kerry.
The onerous task of replacing the Glenties native gets underway tonight when the Board hold an executive meeting before gathering with delegates from the 40 clubs for the monthly county committee meeting.
“The senior team manager’s position will be one of the main items on the agenda,” county chairman Sean Dunnion said last night.
“We will get a selection process agreed and put that to our county committee. We will get a selection committee in place and get an agreed date for the close of nominations.
“We have a few weeks to work but I would expect to have a name to ratify for our November meeting which takes place onNovember 3.”
McGuinness works as a performance consultant at Celtic FC in Glasgow and has a young family in Glenties. His decision was conveyed on Friday night before he went in holiday on Saturday.
Mr Dunnion added: “He has left a tremendous legacy.
“He has given every child in Donegal the will to play Gaelic football. The impact of Jim McGuinness will be felt for years to come.”
