Donegal 0-16 Dublin 2-15
Donegal produced a battling performance, but their Super 8s campaign got off to a defeat with Dublin claiming the spoils in Croke Park this evening.
Declan Bonner’s Donegal played well in the first quarter and led by a point after 22 minutes.
Niall Scully’s 27th minute goal then put Dublin into the lead, although the forward did appear to take too many steps as he ran through.
Donegal fought hard towards the end of the half with Ciaran Thompson and Michael Murphy notching excellent points, but Dublin were also getting scores easily and the men from the capital led by 1-9 to 0-8 at the break.
Bonner’s men made a terrible start to the second half with Niall Scully getting in for a second goal in the 37th minute.
Donegal didn’t cave and reduced their deficit to four points but couldn’t get closer than that, despite keeping Dublin scoreless for 16 minutes in the second half.
Dublin were deserving winners and Donegal will hope for better in their second game against Roscommon next Saturday.
