Donegal battle back to defeat Monaghan and reach last 4

Donegal 1-26 Monaghan 1-20

Donegal fought back from seven points down to see off Monaghan in Croke Park this evening and book their spot in the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.

Donegal started reasonably well and were 0-4 to 0-2 ahead after 13 minutes.

However, Monaghan were outstanding in the second quarter and Micheál Bannigan’s goal helped them into a 1-15 to 0-11 lead at the break.

McGuinness’s men made a strong start to the second half and Michael Langan’s fabulous goal in the 44th minute brought them back to within two.

Donegal got on top and they drew level before pushing ahead when Michael Murphy notched a free in the 53rd minute.

Donegal pushed ahead after that and hit the next four scores before that man Langan struck a brilliant two-pointer on his 100th appearance for the county team.

McGuinness’s men closed the game out and can look forward to a semi-final in a fortnight’s time.
