DONEGAL-born author Gemma Hill will host a book signing in Letterkenny on Saturday.
Her debut book ‘The Twins’ Twins’ is set around Muckish Mountain and the surrounding areas.
Gemma, who now lives in Strabane, was born and reared in Ballindrait, Lifford.
A former pupil of St Patrick’s National School, Murlog, Gemma always loved to read and write and was told as a child she never had her head out of a book.
When the first of her three sons was seven she returned to study at Ulster University and graduated with an honours degree in Social Sciences.
Completing postgraduate study she taught Psychology, Sociology and English at the North West College in Derry where she specialised in Adult Education and Special Needs.
The book centres around the character Rayn, a self-made businesswoman who is in infinite danger of being arrested for domestic violence against Nathanial, her partner.
She flees Western Australia and ends up in a hastily agreed house swap at the foot of Muckish Mountain. Friendless and alone she becomes involved with 20-year-old identical twins, Isaac and Raphael.
“I am absolutely delighted to have my debut book ‘The Twins’ Twins’ published and selling from Daly’s in Lifford, McFadden’s in Strabane to, New York, Australia, Spain and New Jersey,” said Gemma.
“David, in Bookmark in the Shopping Centre, Port Road, Letterkenny is a great supporter of local writers.
“He took one look at ‘The Twins’ Twins’ book and admired the book’s eye catching cover and immediately said I will have no bother selling that.”
“I always loved writing and reading but I didn’t like school,” she admits.
“It still amazes me that I became a teacher.
“We had a wee ESSO petrol station and shop outside of Ballindrait village on the Lifford Road. Growing up we all had to do our ’turn’ in the shop. I was always an avid reader of the newspapers my father had for sale.
“Many of your Donegal readers will know me from the stories and poetry I have had published and for the fiction and non-fiction writings I put on my writers blog www.writeyouwriteme .”
Gemma is hosting a meet the author event and book signing at the Bookmark on the Port Road on Saturday, November 11 from 1pm to 4pm.
