Donegal and Galway play out tense draw

Donegal 1-9 Galway 1-9

Donegal and Galway played out a low-scoring but exciting draw at O’Donnell Park this afternoon.

Galway started the game well but Donegal then struck 1-3 on the spin with Oisin Gallen hitting the net from a penalty.

That put them five points ahead but Matthew Tierney struck back immediately with a goal for Galway.

Donegal were wasteful late in the half but they were 1-6 to 1-3 ahead at the break.

Paddy Carr’s team struggled to find their range after the resumption and Galway were level by the 52nd minute.

Matthew Tierney scored two in-a-row for Galway before Oisin Gallen notched Donegal’s first point of the second half in the 67th minute and then Conor O’Donnell drew the sides level one minute later.

Robert Finnerty and Jason McGee swapped points before Paul Conroy had a chance to win it for Galway at the death but his free tailed wide.

It could yet be a useful point for Donegal as they look to stay up in Division 1 and they are away to Armagh next week.
