IT comes as no surprise that Donegal has featured three times in the top 15 trending summer destinations for Irish travellers, according to Airbnb.
According to data from bookings on the site from June 1 and August 31, 2017, Buncrana and Ballyshannon were among of the most popular holiday destinations.
Coming in ahead of the Cuban capital of Havana, Buncrana was ranked at 7th place, with a 331 per-cent growth from the previous year.
Ballyshannon made it in at 14th place, with a growth of 229 per-cent since last summer.
With a massive tourism push from Go Visit Donegal, and National Geographic Traveller magazine naming it as ‘the coolest place on earth’, the latest figures come as no surprise.
Seven of the top ten destinations for Irish travellers were in fact in Ireland, proving that ‘staycations’ are on the rise.
Dungarvan in Waterford, outshone everywhere else on the map at the top spot with 541 per-cent growth.
Foreign countries in the top 15 destinations for Irish travellers included Cuba, 8th, Italy, 10th and the Canary Islands, 13th.
Half a million AirBnB visitors came to Ireland, 90,000 of whom were families, during the summer period.
This summer, 280,000 Irish travellers, including 60,000 families, stayed in AirBnBs across the globe.
