THE Donegal accent is the best in Ireland, according to a recent poll carried out by entertainment website theSlicedPan.com.
Over the past week, thousands of site visitors have have been voting to rank each Irish county’s accent.
More than 215,000 votes were cast for the 33 accents (two accents for Dublin), with people voting their favourite accents up and their least favourite accents down.
As it turned out, Donegal’s accent was the only one to receive more upvotes than downvotes.
While it was great news for the likes of Donegal, Galway and Cork, it was a terrible election for the Leinster counties as they dominated the bottom half of the table.
The top five accents in Ireland are: Donegal, Galway, Cork, Derry and Roscommon. The worst five accents are: Laois, Longford, North Dublin, Offaly and D4.
Speaking about the result, Mark Farrelly of TheSlicedPan.com said: “We had thought the Donegal accent would prove popular but the manner in which it won was staggering.
“The result was never in doubt and we’re heading to Letterkenny as we speak for some much-needed elocution lessons.”
