A man in his 70s is to appear before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin this afternoon charged in connection with the murder of Denis Donaldson.
The man was arrested along with another man , aged in his 40s, on Tuesday evening and both were detained at Letterkenny Garda Station under the Provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939. The man in his 40s has been released without charge.
A file will now be prepared for the information of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Denis Donaldson was shot dead in Cloghercor, Doochary, Donegal in April 2006, in a killing claimed to have been carried out by the Real IRA. Months earlier, it had emerged that the Sinn Fein member had worked for the police and the MI5 for 20 years.
Gardai have thanked all those who have assisted and co-operated with the investigation to date.
