Donal Kelly takes late son’s seat on Donegal Council

DONAL Kelly has officially taken his late son Manus’s seat on Donegal County Council.

Mr Kelly momentarily struggled for words this morning as he spoke of his pride at being able to take up the role his son was elected to in May.

Father-of-five Manus was killed when his car left the road on the final day of this year’s Donegal Rally.

“I’m glad to be able to go in Manus’s place and it is an honour. It’s an emotional day but I’m glad to be able to do this,” Donal Kelly said.

His wife Jackie and daughter Kelda were in the chamber to see Mr Kelly officially co-opted.
