THE first major operation of its kind as part of a strategic social welfare fraud crackdown swung into action in Donegal on Wednesday when officials swooped on a number of business premises and building sites.
Revenue and Social Welfare officials from the Department’s Special Investigation Unit swooped on fast food restaurants, takeaways, bars, building sites and other businesses in the Letterkenny and Inishowen areas
A spokesman for the Department of Social Protection confirmed the blitz was targeted at “high risk” sectors as part of a multi agency approach against social welfare fraud.
