DONEGAL County Council are launching a survey next month to establish the demand in Donegal for affordable homes.
The online survey is being carried out on behalf of the Local Authority Affordable Housing Scheme.
The scheme aims to help people on moderate incomes buy new homes at an initially reduced price. New homes under this scheme are located in areas with the greatest housing need and where affordability is a problem.
Donegal is not currently included in the national Local Authority Affordable Housing Scheme.
The purpose of this survey is to gather data on the demand for the scheme in the county and to determine the potential numbers eligible under the terms of the scheme.
Depending on the outcome of the survey, the council may seek approval from the department for Donegal to be included in the scheme.
A spokesperson for the council said that if the county obtains approval for inclusion in the scheme, a separate formal application process will be established and be advertised, in accordance with the conditions of the scheme.
“The council encourages anybody who is interested in the scheme to complete the survey which will help it establish the level of demand,” they added.
The survey will be open for completion until Friday, April 12, 2024.
The survey can be accessed through the Council’s website at www.donegalcoco.ie and at Affordable Housing Survey 2024 | Donegal County Council’s Online Consultation Portal.
