Finn Harps 0 Wexford 1
Finn Harps were undone by a curling effort from Aaron Dobbs in the second half as Wexford took the three points in Finn Park.
The Harps had chances in the opening half through free-kicks from Ryan Flood but he couldn’t recreate his heroics from two weeks ago as Noel Heffernan saved easy twice.
Damian Duffy went for goal from 30 yards which went just went and on the stroke of half-time Sean O’Donnell was outstretched to reach a Filip Da Silva cross but he couldn’t direct it on target as the Harps were much the better team in the opening 45.
But it was a game of two halves as the away side substitute Mark Hanratty linked up well with Aaron Dobbs and caused the home defence plenty of problems.
And just after the hour mark it was those two that combined for the only goal of the game as a Wexford cross was headed only as far as Hanratty inside the box.
The substitute laid it off to Dobbs on the right and he curled into the far corner leaving Tim Hiemer stranded.
Wexford continued to press and Dobbs rounded Hiemer but could only find the side netting, while Hugh Douglas had a header from a corner go narrowly wide.
The Harps tried to find an equaliser and had a couple of crosses that looked dangerous but didn’t find a blue shirt.
And with time up, Duffy had an effort from 25 yards deflect out for a corner. Flood played it short to Duffy and as the ball stopped dead in the box, Caoimhin Porter went to shoot but got over the ball and failed to connect as Wexford held on to take the three points, with Finn Harps moving down to eighth.
