BRIAN Diver says he has been aware of the GAA tradition at St Eunan’s College since the very first time he walked down the corridors at the school, and he is hoping to earn his spot on their wall of winners.
St Eunan’s have enjoyed a lot of success on the GAA field, and there are an abundance of pictures on show of their triumphant teams.
Diver is hoping that the current senior team will have their own picture put up before the school year is out.
“There’s a big tradition of GAA in the school, and you see the pictures on the wall the very first day you come through the doors,” said Diver.
“You see all those pictures on the wall, and you always want to be up there yourself.
“It’s been a goal of mine for all my six years in the school. We just want to be up on the wall and this is our chance now.”
The Letterkenny Gaels clubman has had an excellent season in the backline for St Eunan’s and won a Colleges All Star earlier this year, which he is very proud of.
“It was a good achievement, and I have to thank Mr Gordon for sending me up in the first place because he could have sent up any of the boys on the team.
“We have a great side, and any one of them would have had a good chance of getting an All Star.
“It was a great experience up at the trials against the best players in Ulster. It was a great help for my confidence.”
The 18-year-old is in his final year at the school and would like to bow out on a high.
However, he is well aware of the threat that Holy Trinity Cookstown possess.
“It will be a tough game. We had a few boys up watching their other games, and I’ve seen a few clips online.
“They look good and move the ball well. A final is tough, but we’ve done a lot of training since the winter.
“There’s been a great buzz about the school over the last few weeks after winning the semi-final, and we’re all just looking forward to the final now.”
