Disqualified Letterkenny driver arrested after fleeing collision while heavily intoxicated

A DISQUALIFIED motorist who fled the scene of a collision in Letterkenny has been arrested after gardaí found they were nine times over the legal alcohol limit.

Gardaí from the Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit apprehended the driver last night after they left the scene of a collision involving another vehicle.

A garda spokesperson said: “The driver, who was already disqualified from driving, was then arrested on suspicion of drink driving having failed a roadside breath test.

“Further breath testing showed that the driver was nine times over the legal limit.

“The car was seized and the owner must now apply to the Judge of the District Court to get it back.”

Gardaí have charged the motorist, and a court date is now pending.

Meanwhile, gardaí in Donegal remind the public to never take unnecessary or dangerous risks where road safety is concerned.

“Never drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs…ever,” a garda spokesperson concluded.
