MANAGEMENT of Rosses Credit Union have expressed dissapointment that the organisation was not successful in their bid to buy the former Bank of Ireland building in Dungloe.

The former bank on Dungloe Main Street went on the market earlier this year with an asking price of around €190,000.

Following a customer survey, the Credit Union announced in April their intention to purchase the property and transform it into their new office space. However this week they informed their members that they had been outbid.

Higher bidder

“We regret to inform you that we were unsuccessful in the purchase. The building went to a higher bidder and to be honest we were disappointed,” said a spokesperson.

“As a well established financial institution who stepped up to accommodate Bank of Ireland customers when they left, we felt we may have had a chance of getting the building in order to accommodate the people of the Rosses, Fintown and Arranmore better.

“Regardless of this we do promise to be here for our members’ needs for a long time to come. Thank you all so much for the loyalty, support and positive good wishes.”

In recent months the Credit Union has seen an increase in the number of members and new additional services which has led to a need for a new building with extra space. The Credit Union is currently located at the Upper Main Street, Dungloe.

The identity of the successful bidder is not yet known. The town centre property comprises a detached three-bay, three-storey listed building built in the early 1900s with two-storey over basement return to the rear.
