Disappointment for Donegal in Nickey Rackard Final

Donegal 3-12 Wicklow 1-20

A poor second half proved very costly as Donegal were beaten by Wicklow in the Nickey Rackard Cup Final in Croke Park today.

Mickey McCann’s Donegal started very well and were 0-4 to 0-1 up after seven minutes.

Wicklow got back to within one but Donegal kicked on again with Ryan Hilferty and Liam McKinney scoring superb goals.

They had seven wides at the break but were probably content with a 2-8 to 0-10 half-time lead.

Wicklow were much improved after the restart and Andy O’Brien’s 43rd minute goal drew the sides level.

The Garden county pushed on after that and were three points ahead by the 60th minutes as the wides started to mount up for Donegal.

Wicklow added two more points before Luke White netted a goal from a free in the 72nd minute.

However, McCann’s charges couldn’t find the late goal they needed and Wicklow claimed the silverware.
