OVER €1,400 has been raised this week on behalf of the Donegal Hospice as the result of a coffee morning organised by staff at Dillons Hotel in Letterkenny.
And with donations still coming in, the figure is expected to rise to close to €2,000.
Boxer Jason Quigley has thrown his hat into the ring in support of the cause and praised the initiative along with the Hospice movement.
Speaking after Tuesday’s event, and on hearing of the fund-raising total to date, he declared: “That’s brilliant. Anything I can do to help, I’m happy to do so.
“A really good friend of mine’s mother died in the Hospice but the staff there took really good care of her. It shows the importance of it and people speak so highly of it. There are very good people working there.”
On the coffee morning itself, the Ballybofey man added: “Apart from the cause behind it, it gives a chance for folk to come along and have a cuppa and a chat. For some people it’s a challenge to come out of their homes but this sort of get-together gives them an opportunity to do just that and engage with others.
“It’s a really warming atmosphere and there’s a lovely homely feeling about Dillons Hotel.”
Speaking at the event on behalf of the hotel, Teresa Gallagher thanked everyone who attended and acknowledged their contributions on the day.
She also spoke of her own involvement with the Hospice.
“It helped me in a really good way. It means so much to so many people and we’re very grateful to Jason for coming to support it.”
Donations are still coming in online and next year, Dillons Hotel hope to organise a quiz night to support the Donegal Hospice.
