Dillon’s Hotel aim for revamp to be ready for rally weekend

IT is hoped the major refurbishment work underway in Dillon’s Hotel in Letterkenny will be completed in time for Donegal’s rally weekend.

Eddie McKeever, Group Operations Director for McKeever Hotels, recently announced his plans to invest £1.4 million into the hotel in a bid to transform the premises to a luxury four star standard.

In 2014, McKeever Hotels purchased Dillons hotel, known then as the Letterkenny Court Hotel, with a vision to rebrand.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Eddie said in 2014 they refurbished 57 bedrooms and added a bar, a grill and some meeting rooms to the hotel.

“That was quite a substantial refurbishment back then. There were 26 apartments that we tidied up in 2014 but we always knew we’d have to come back and do a bigger job,” he said.

Speaking about the on-going refurbishments, Eddie said they are changing some single bedroom apartments into two bedroom apartments.

“Some apartments are being converted into suites for upgrades and some are getting refurbished and getting new fixtures, fittings and bathrooms. At the minute the rooms are completely cleared out and some are getting reshaped,” he said.

With all the apartments situated at the end of the three floors of bedrooms, the hotel has been able to remain open while the work is on-going.

“The apartments are all one above the other and there is nothing below them so there is no noise or dust which means we have been allowed to keep the hotel open without any disturbance to anyone that is there,” he said.

Anticipating the completion of the refurbishment, Eddie said not only will it be beneficial to them as a hotel, but for the existing customers.

“We get a lot of families coming back every year and we are excited for them to see our new rooms. It just ups the standard of the hotel and ups the standard of what is available in Letterkenny.

“There is a lot of work going on at the moment with the council in the area and in the Cathedral Quarter so we want to do our part as well for that area and have a really nice product bang in the centre of town,” he said.

Work on the hotel is due to be finished at the end of May just in time for the summer months.
