Detections lead to Garda speed warning

GARDAÍ in Donegal have issued a speed warning after catching motorists breaking the limit in particularly bad driving conditions.

One driver was nabbed doing 139kph in a 100kph zone and the other 120kph.

“We sound like a broken record,” said the local roads unit.

“We know that. We also know that speed kills so we continue to urge all drivers to slow down.

“Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit detected three drivers travelling in excess of 120kph in a 100kph speed zone between the hours of 4pm and 5pm. One of the speeds detected was 139kph. The roads were extremely busy at the time and weather conditions were very poor with heavy rain/wet road surfaces.

“The appeal to ‘slow down’ certainly is repetitive and therefore should be well known. It should be taken on board. Perhaps some don’t care? Maybe some think that they are invincible?

“We are all vulnerable on the roads. Nobody is invincible.

“Save lives. Slow down,” gardaí added.
