Derby disappointment for Donegal hurlers against Derry

Donegal tasted defeat in the National Hurling League today when Derry powered past them in the second half of this local derby at O’Donnell Park.

The sides were level after eight minutes before Donegal struck five points in-a-row with Gerry Gilmore and Liam McKinney to the fore.

Dara Mooney hit back with a goal for Derry and while they were wasteful in front of the posts, the Oak Leafers did get back onto level terms by the break.

HT: Donegal 0-12 Derry 1-9

Cahal Murray and Sean Ward swapped points at the start of the second half but Donegal then lost their way and failed to score for 23 minutes.

Derry notched seven points in-a-row and appeared to be coasting to victory before Donegal rallied and brought their deficit back to four points.

However, that was as good as it got and a late goal from Cahal Murray made sure of Derry’s win.
