DEPUTY Pádraig MacLochlainn is in Palestine this weekend to attend a major international conference with hundreds of delegates from all over the world including Government Ministers, City Mayors, and Local Authority leaders. They join hundreds of Palestinian political leaders and activists in Ramallah.
Tomorrow (Saturday) he will deliver a key note address on the need for international solidarity and assistance with the Palestinian people alongside the famous PLO spokesperson Hanan Ashrawi.
Background
The year 2014 is the ‘UN International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People’ (IYSPP). The organising committee of the IYSPP in Palestine have organised an event in Ramallah, November 20 till 23rd 2014, to coincide with this and have invited a Sinn Féin representative to attend and deliver a keynote International address at their conference.
Pádraig Mac Lochlainn will be representing Sinn Féin at this event.
The conference is entitled ‘International conference of local authorities in solidarity with the Palestinian people: Local authorities at the heart of the state of Palestine’.
The conference is officially being opened on Friday 21 November by President Mahmoud Abbas along with Dr Nayef Abu Khalaf, Minister of Local Government.
Pádraig will be one of two people (the other is PLO Executive Committee member, Hanan Ashrawi) delivering keynote International solidarity presentations.
