TWO handmade bog oak pens from West Donegal reached new heights high in the sky over Egypt last night. The pens were presented to two Emirates cabin crew members as the plane cruised at 39,000 feet en route to Dubai. UK based Katy McGee, who has Donegal connections, and Helen Estrada from the Philippines were delighted with the gesture.

Denis Sweeney of Loughanure, a next door neighbour of Ronan and Conor McGarvey, decided the impressive service by the cabin crew warranted a little gift from Donegal.

The popular West Donegal man and his partner Jimmy Brophy are heading to Kuala Lumpur for the St Patrick’s Day celebrations where he will also present some Donegal Pens to ex-pats out there.

“I thought it would be a nice touch to give some of the cabin crew a few pens from home as they looked after us very well. I had some with me as presentations for the St Patrick’s Day ball in Kuala Lumpur. My young neighbours are really getting their pens around these days and I’m told these are the first to reach Kuala Lumpur”, he said.

Conor Mc Garvey confirmed this is the first time to their knowledge that their pens will touch down in Kuala Lumpur. They have shipped their pens worldwide in recent years but he doesn’t recall addressing any packages to Kuala Lumpur.

“Denis is always on the ball but we never expected a 39,000 feet mid air hand over of Donegal Pens. He collected some from us recently for his travels but didn’t reveal the plan he had for them. We just might consider interviewing him for a marketing job now,” laughed Conor.

The full range of Donegal Pens can be viewed at www.donegalpens.com and the boys now also offer an engraving service. The also have a new app that can be downloaded to smartphones, iPads and tablets from: https://donegalpens.appsme.com/
