TERESA Mullen and her St Michael’s teammates were chuffed to achieve their objective on Sunday and win the Junior ‘B’ crown.
There are always ups and downs when trying to get a senior team off the ground and 2024 was a season to forget for the girls from the Bridge.
However with Manus Friel, Bernie McGinley, Martin McGarvey, Hazel Neely and Joan Frisby providing a solid management team, they soon got to work and got their reward in Lifford.
“We got back going three years ago,” said Mullen, who impressed at centre half-forward.
“In the first year we had the shield and then last year we didn’t get going as well.
“Then at the start of this year we knew what we had to do after a tough season last year.
“From day one, this is where we wanted to be, and thankfully it worked out well.
“Manus and the boys have been motivating us all year. We have had girls come in and girls go away at different times.
“Getting Evelyn (McGinley) back from Termon was a big boost for us.
“She came from senior to junior football and that really motivated us.”
The game was in the melting pot in the closing moments but St Michael’s took their chance when it arose and Marian Doherty swung over the winning point.
Mullen said: “I’m just happy to get over the line.
“We let them back into it and it took us a while to settle but Evelyn was there to help us and lead us through.
“Thankfully we came out on the right end of it.
“The girls never stopped running all day and it was a great effort from everyone.”
St Michael’s have good young talent coming through and Mullen (20) is looking forward to testing themselves at Junior ‘A’ level next term.
“It will be a big step up but it’s exciting.
“Hopefully we will get up and maybe get a few players back from Termon. We will see about that!
“But no, it’s really good for the confidence of the younger girls.
“My sister (Mary Anne) is going away to Australia now but hopefully we will get her back soon enough.”
