Defeat for Donegal in Ulster Minor semi-final

Cavan 1-17 Donegal 0-15

Donegal’s hopes of reaching their first Ulster MFC final in four years were dashed by an impressive Cavan side in Breffni Park this evening.

Cavan played with the breeze in the first half and were 0-4 to 0-2 ahead after 12 minutes.

However, Donegal picked it up after that with Joseph Gibbions and Shane Sweeney in good form and Jack Gallagher’s fisted effort gave them the lead at the break.

HT: Cavan 0-8 Donegal 0-9

Cavan made a great start to the second half and moved three ahead when Nathan Quigley lashed home a fine goal in the 39th minute.

Donegal did get back to within two but Cavan were dominant in the middle of the field and they pushed ahead into a six-point lead heading into the final five minutes.

Jamie Gavigan did kick a fine two-pointer but Donegal didn’t make the most of the ball they had after that and Cavan finished with a brace of scores from the aptly named Sam Maguire.

Cavan advance to meet Tyrone in the Ulster Final, while Donegal will now progress to the Tier 2 All-Ireland Championship.
