Deep sadness following death of Councillor Noreen McGarvey

There is deep sadness across the county following the death of councillor Noreen McGarvey last night.

Cllr McGarvey passed away in the care of the Donegal Hospice surrounded by her loving family.

The Dungloe based councillor was elected to Donegal County Council in the 2019 local elections.

Cathaoirleach of the Glenties Municipal District, Cllr Michael McClafferty said: “It is with deep sadness and regret this morning I announce the sad passing of our dear colleague and friend Fianna Fáil Cllr Noreen Mc Garvey, Leas Cathaoirleach of the Glenties M.D.

“Our Immediate thoughts and prayers are with Noreen’s daughter Amy, her mum and dad, her siblings and Pat the Cope Gallagher respectively whom Noreen was secretary to and to all Noreen’s friends, Fianna Fáil colleagues on Donegal County Council locally and nationally in the wider Fianna Fáil party circle. Our condolences to you all at this difficult time.

“Noreen was a very gentle, kind hearted, considerate, warm and caring lady and always had a smile for everyone.”

Cllr McClafferty said she had great attention to detail and was razor sharp on her points, was always clear and stuck to what she believed in while fighting the corner of her constituents.

Funeral arrangements for Cllr McGarvey are yet to be confirmed.
