The sad death has occured of Downings GAA stalwart Paddy ‘Fenny’ McBride.
Paddy was a well-known figure in GAA circles in the county and served as a player, administrator, and referee for his club.
He took on the role of PRO for the Downings club as they hosted the national Comortás Peile na Gaeltachta Finals in June, and he was the driving force behind the success of that tournament.
Paddy – who worked for Optum in Letterkenny – also completed 17 marathons to raise money for Crumlins Childrens Hospital and played such a pivotal role in his local community.
In recent months, he was diagnosed with malignant melanoma – a rare form of cancer. Unfortunately he lost his battle with that illness last night at the age of 59.
