It’s been a busy and encouraging start to the season for the Donegal senior footballers and they have another outing to look forward to this weekend when they square off against Derry in the McKenna Cup Final.
Pre-season has gone well for both teams and they will be feeling good about themselves heading towards the latter part of January.
I was impressed with the manner in which Donegal blew Monaghan away last Sunday in Castleblayney.
The Farney side went with an experimental team and they didn’t include many of their household names.
Donegal weren’t at full tilt either but they did have a more seasoned look to the team and it counted.
Jim McGuinness’s team got on top from early in the encounter, and they sliced through Monaghan at will.
They scored three goals in the first half and they could easily have had another three.
The contest was over at half-time and the second half was a bit more disrupted with both sides emptying their benches, but all in all, it was a good work-out for the team.
