Michael A. McAteer, USA and Fanad

Michael A. McAteer, 98 of Berkeley Township, New Jersey, USA passed away peacefully at his home on July 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Michael was the last survivor of a McAteer (Kit) family of seven children born to Francis McAteer and Ellen McAteer (McGinley) of Ballure, Fanad.

He was predeceased in 2009 by his wife of 56 years, Sara Teresa McAteer (Grant) of Glenard, Buncrana.

Together they raised a family of nine children, living in Newark, New Jersey and Maplewood, New Jersey, before retiring to Berkeley in 2003.

Michael was employed by New Jersey Transit Bus Operations for 36 years.

As part of his long, happy, and healthy retirement, he enjoyed annual trips to Donegal to visit with family and friends, traveling independently into his 90s.

He especially loved visiting with his sister-in-law Bridie (Donegan) of Lisfannon, Buncrana, his beloved nieces Nuala Keegan (Mulligan) and Grace Mulligan of Letterkenny, and his cousin Mary Tobin of Letterkenny.

He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather.

Michael is predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Mary (Mulligan) of Dunfanaghy; Celia (Logue) of Kerrykeel; Catherine and John of Ballure, Fanad; the Very Reverend Canon Patrick of Carrigart and Bridget (Fahey) of Clane, Co. Kildare.

Michael is also predeceased by his son, Michael A. McAteer, Jr.; and daughters, Marian and Gerri.

He is survived by his sons, Francis, Patrick, Richard and wife Ellen, and John; daughters Ellen and Deirdre; as well as six grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at St. Maximilian Kolbe church in Toms River, with Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River, New Jersey.

Margo  McGrory, Buncrana

The death has occurred at The Donegal Hospice of Margo McGrory (nee Kelly), 18 Baile na Carraige, Buncrana, F93 FKVO.

Beloved wife of Martin and much loved mother of Shane, Christopher, Dallan, Keith, Conal and Ronan.

Deeply regretted and will be sadly missed by her husband, sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers, extended family, and friends.

Her remains will be reposing at her home.

Removal from there on Tuesday morning, July 15 at 9.15 am to St. Mary’s Oratory, Buncrana for Requiem Mass at 10 am followed by interment in St. Mary’s Graveyard, Cockhill.

Neil Begley, Milford

The death has occurred of Neil Begley, Glenalla, Milford.

Mr Begley passed away peacefully in the Donegal Hospice on Sunday, July 13.

Deeply regretted his loving family, Francie (Jacqueline), Philomena (James), Tony (Caroline), Rosemary, Caroline (Peter), Shaun (Joanne), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters Frances Mc Taggart (Ballyare) and Sheila Sheridan (Glasgow), nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Predeceased by his wife Mena, sons Kevin and Paul and daughter Mary-Margaret.

Remains reposing at his home.

Requiem Mass on Tuesday, July 15 at 11am in St Joseph’s Church, Rathmullan. Burial afterwards in Rathmullan Cemetery.

Rose Rutherford, Carndonagh

The death has occurred of Rose Rutherford née Doherty, The Park, Ballyloskey, Carndonagh.

Ms Rutherford passed away peacefully at The Donegal Hospice on Friday, July 11.

Predeceased by her loving husband Bernard, and much-loved mother of Amanda and Paul.
Dear sister of Anne and Neil, predeceased by John, Nora, Sr. Marietta, Jimmy, Packie and Billy.
Sorely missed by her grandchildren Karlann, Kealan, Daisy, Kauri and Willow, her daughter-in-law Hilary, her extended family, friends and neighbours.
Her remains will repose at her late residence where all are welcome to pay their respects.

Funeral from there on Tuesday at 10:20am going to Sacred Heart Church, Carndonagh for 11am Requiem Mass followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Peter Carr, Dublin and Raphoe

The death has occurred of Peter Carr, Goatstown, Dublin and formerly of Raphoe.

Mr Carr passed away unexpectedly in Helsinki University Hospital, Finland with his children by his side on Sunday, July 6.

Beloved husband of the late Anka and loving father of Tanja and Chris and beloved brother to Eimear and John.

He will be very sadly missed by his loving family, his grandchildren Clío and Rosa, step-grandson Jack, daughter-in-law Bobbi, son-in-law Zaine, sister-in-law Nalle, brother-in-law Jussi, his nephews and nieces and his grandnieces and nephews.

He will also be missed so much by all his extended family, friends and neighbours both in Ireland and Finland.

Reposing at Fanagans Funeral Home, Dundrum on Tuesday, July 15 from 5pm to 7pm.

Funeral Mass on Wednesday, July 16 at 10am in St Mary’s Star of the Sea Church, Sandymount, followed by cremation in the Victorian Chapel at Mount Jerome, Harold’s Cross.

Joe O’Donnell, Jersey and Gortahork

The death has occurred of Joe O’Donnell, St Helier, Jersey and formerly of Ardsmore, Gortahork.

Mr O’Donnell passed away suddenly on Friday, June 28.

Predeceased by his loving parents Bernard and Gracie O’Donnell.

Sadly missed by his brothers David McNally and David O’Donnell, sisters Julie and Marianne O’Donnell, his nieces and nephews, Fionn, Naincí, Gracie, Úna, Sally, Maureen, Daphne and Oscar, brother and sister in laws, Brian, John and Abi, extended family, neighbours, work colleagues and a wide circle of friends in Jersey and Donegal.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
