By Dionne Meehan

AFTER years of serenading couples on their big day, Inch Island’s David Craig has decided to step away from his career as a wedding singer.

Shifting his focus to new projects, David, who is a brick-layer by trade, announced he will be releasing new music as a solo artist in the coming weeks.

When David left school at 16-years-old to work on a building site, little did he know the musical career that lay ahead of him.

Starting off playing the pub scene with a two piece band many moons ago, soon his career would evolve and he and his band, would be the most sought after wedding entertainment in the county.

But now, as he prepares to step away from the wedding scene in late 2026, David reflected on some of the highlights of his career so far.

“I have been a block layer for many years,” David said.

“But, the music is definitely a nicer trade.

“You go out and play in front of people who are happy, you are in a warm building, in a good suit and you are the entertainer.

“Whereas on the building site, you are out on wet days and you are soaking.

“It is nice to do something you really do enjoy doing.”

David, who is best known for covering pop, rock and country music, hinted that he now plans to go down the ‘Celtic rock’ route.

Looking back on his 15-year career as a wedding singer, David said nothing compares to the joy of being invited by a bride to share in her special day.

“Some brides actually change the date of their wedding to suit us,” he said.

“It is very touching; you look at it as a compliment.

“There are some weddings that I will never forget, they have been unbelievable.

“Thankfully, most of the weddings I do, the crowds are really up for the craic.”

He also reflected on the many remarkable opportunities his career has brought him over the years.

Among the most memorable is traveling to New York for St. Patrick’s Day in 2015, as well as performing gigs in England and Boston.

“There have been so many great nights over the years,” he said.

“I couldn’t just point to one in particular.”

With some exciting plans for the future already in the pipeline, David, who is best known for covering pop, rock and country music, hinted that he now plans to go down the ‘Celtic rock’ route.

Recording a version of ‘Raglan Road’ which is set to be released in the coming weeks, David said he is looking forward to having more freedom with his music.
