LONGFORD native and former Derby County underage striker Daryl Carrigy is expected to be among the trialists for Finn Harps this evening when they take on Drumkeen United at the Finn Valley Centre (kick-off 7.30pm).

Carrigy was released from the Rams recently and is on the look-out for a new club.

A former striker with top Dublin outfit Stella Maris, Carrigy comes highly recommended. Having featured for his native Ardagh United in Longford, he went to Stella before being transferred to Derby following a trial with the Pride Park outfit.

An ex-pupil of St Mel’s College in Longford, he has played for the Republic of Ireland at Under 15 level and has garnered a reputation as a potent goalscorer.

New Harps manager Ollie Horgan looks after the Irish Schools team and is keen to get Carrigy on board to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new campaign.

It is expected that he will be included in Horgan’s line-up for this evening’s friendly, with Shaun McGowan, Micheál Doherty and Jonny Bonner – who have all agreed terms for the 2014 season – also likely to be included. All three were members of the panel last season and have agreed to return to Finn Park for this year.

Matthew Henry is also close to agreeing terms with the club.

Horgan remains on the look-out for a goalkeeper, but hasn’t given up on Conor Winn, who was on trial in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat by Cockhill Celtic. The towering netminder was forced off injured in the second half and Shaun Patton is likely to be between the sticks in this evening’s encounter with Mickey Rodgers’ Drumkeen, the runners-up in the Ulster Senior League in 2013.
