DARRYL Moran of the Illies Golden Gloves has been named on the nine-man Irish squad for the forthcoming 2014 European Youth Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.
The Championships take place between October 17 and 26 and five-time Irish champion Moran will compete at 49kgs.
Moran took the Irish Under-18 49kgs title in June, defeating Stephen McKenna from the Old School BC in Monaghan. Moran had toppled Carndonagh man Liam Callaghan in the semi-final and he powered to a 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 final win over McKenna.
Pre-Championships, Moran had fought at a tournament with the Kincorth BC in Fraserburgh, Scotland when the Illies club visited.
His win over McKenna was his fifth Irish title and he’ll head to Zagreb confident of making a mark.
