Danu Young Women’s Choir to perform in Ramelton this weekend

DANU Young Women’s Choir are hosting a Christmas celebration ‘Then Sings My Soul’ in Ramelton Presbyterian Church this weekend.

The choir, which was founded in Letterkenny in 2022, now has over 100 girls singing in the junior choir (age 10-13) and senior choir (age 14-18).

At the event, the choir will introduce the audience to new Christmas choral anthems together with the most beloved pieces.

Choir conductor, Douglas Carnes, moved to Donegal with his wife three years ago from New York.

Following the move, Douglas, who worked previously as a choral conductor in America, noticed there was no space for young women to be themselves, to grow and develop through music.

Not long after this realisation, Danu Young Women’s Choir was born.

Now conducting a choir of over 100 young women, Douglas said: “They combine dedication to singing at an extremely professional level with a strong emphasis on the bonds of friendship, support and cooperation.

“They truly are sisters in song!”

This year in particular, the choir has gone from strength to strength.

In January 2024, they travelled to New York and won the Junior Chorus Competition at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s Midwinter Convention.

The choir also won the National Youth Chorus competition at the Irish Association of Barbershop Singers convention this year.

With performances on both Saturday and Sunday night at 7.30pm, it is a must see show.

This concert is sure to warm your heart and ring in the Christmas day to come.

Tickets can be purchased at the door on the night, on danuyoungwomenschoir.com or eventcreate.com. Tickets are €15 for adults and €7.50 for children nine-years-old and under.
