Danielle ‘leaps’ at chance to propose to boyfriend Rory

INISHOWEN woman Danielle McDaid ‘leaped’ on an opportunity that only arises every four years when she proposed.

Carndonagh’s Danielle popped the question to boyfriend Rory Brady during a night away in Creeslough on Saturday. And to her delight, fellow Carn native Rory said yes.

According to old Irish tradition, the Leap Year is the perfect chance for a woman to take matters into her own hands and get down on one knee.

And that is exactly what Danielle did.
“We were away on a night’s glamping and we were in the pod when I got down on one knee and asked him,” Danielle said yesterday.

“I think he was a bit shocked but straightaway he said yes so I was delighted.”

The couple, who have been going out for two and a half years, were treated to champagne and dessert by the good folk at Rose’s Bar and Kitchen following the surprise proposal.

“I had dinner reservations and the staff came out with the champagne and cake. It was a lovely thing to do.”

The happy couple spent yesterday telling all their friends and family and say they hope to tie the knot within a couple of years.

“There’s no point in getting engaged if you have no intention of getting married,” a smiling Danielle added.

Meanwhile four ‘leapling’ babies were born at Letterkenny University Hospital.

Leonie Rodgers from St Johnston gave birth to little Annie Rose while Rosin McCafferty from Letterkenny had baby Byrne. Annalise McGavigan from Lifford proudly welcomed Parker Frie into the world while Karen Doherty from Laghey had a beautiful boy she has called Oran.

Given the calendar oddity, the four little ones will have to wait until 2024 before they turn one.
