A MAJOR fundraising concert will take place in Crolly tomorrow night in a show of solidarity following the devastating fire that destroyed St Mary’s Church, Derrybeg on Easter Monday.
The event, headlined by Daniel O’Donnell, will be held in the marquee at Teach Paidi Óig.
Organised by Coiste Forbartha Chroithlí, the concert will also feature performances from Clannad’s Moya Brennan and Altan’s Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh.
The same marquee hosted a successful Easter festival just last week, and now it will once again serve as a gathering place- this time to support the rebuilding of the parish church that has stood at the heart of the local community for generations.
Speaking ahead of the event, a spokesperson for the organising committee said:
“Now, it’s time to give back to the place that gave us so much. We are hosting a fundraiser and volunteer night to support the rebuilding of our chapel and to renew the spirit that holds our parish together.”
Local councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig, who is also involved in the event’s organisation, praised the strong community response.
This event, along with the hugely successful online fundraiser, is a testament to the spirit of this parish, he told the Donegal News.
“So many people have reached out to help. This is a sad time for a lot of people, and they just want to be there for their community.”
Doors open at 8pm on Saturday night, and donations will be accepted on the night. All funds raised will go toward the rebuilding of St Mary’s Church.
