A CONSULTANT who has been assessing Errigal this week has said the damage to the mountain is ‘pretty serious’.

Donegal County Council and Dunlewey Development Committee have appointed a consultant to assess the ongoing problems with the access path to Errigal with a view to make recommendations on addressing the problems.

Chris York from Walking-the-Talk has been in the area since last Sunday undertaking surveys and his first impression was that there are ‘pretty serious problems’.
Mr York has been invited to cast a critical eye on the state of Errigal and see what damage there is and which ways it can be stopped or ‘cured’.

Having been assessing Errigal since Sunday, he said his first impression is that there are ‘pretty serious problems’.
“The hill from the car park is incredibly wet. Understandably people don’t want to walk through this (although some do) and therefore the damage is spread very wide.
“The area where I am now, the steep area half way up Errigal is moving. There is no easy way to ‘sweeten the pill’, we can’t stick our heads in the peat bog and pretend that the damage is not there,” he said.

Mr York will be available for consultations in the Dunlewey Community Centre on Saturday, July 25 between 4 and 7pm. Groups or individuals are invited to drop in and discuss their views on the access to Errigal. Alternatively you can e-mail your submission to errigal@walking-the-talk.co.uk by August 5.
