Curtain comes down on first ‘Move 2 The Beat’ programme

The six-week exercise to music programme for over-50s developed by Donegal Sports Partnership and supported by the HSE concluded at the end of March.
‘Move 2 The Beat’ was delivered at Conwal Parish Hall in Letterkenny by Ciaran McVeigh-Lunn who is a member of Donegal Sports Partnership’s tutoring team.
Commenting on the initiative, Donegal Sports Partnership’s Sports Development Officer, Karen Guthrie, said she was amazed at the level of interest the pilot programme attracted.
“We had over 200 expressions of interest in ‘Move 2 The Beat’ that was launched in February and came to an end last Wednesday.
“There are so many fitness-type classes out there at the minute. Much of the work we do at Donegal Sports Partnership is community-based and we have found the neutrality of community centres is sometimes more appealing for people who are returning to exercise,” she said.
“We are very fortunate to have a great network of community partners and were delighted to be able to host the programme in Conwal Parish Church Hall. Denise had the kettle on after each class and the group was able to sit and have a cup of tea, which is nearly the most important part of the session,” the sports development officer added.
“Ciara McVeigh-Lunn has recently joined the tutoring team at Donegal Sports Partnership and we’re delighted to have someone of Ciara’s experience leading out on this programme. She brought so much energy to every single session and always has great enthusiasm when working for Donegal Sports Partnership in the community. With over 200 expressions of interest, we are in the process of catering for those on the reserve list. Our plan is to recommence ‘Move 2 The Beat’ after Easter.”
