Four whiskeys won Double Gold medals, with Irish single malt expressions dominating with three out of four medals. One of the top Irish single malts was Crolly Distillery, Croithlí Quercus Alba Oak Cask Finish.

Adding to the accolade, the win featured in American business magazine Forbes.

Meanwhile, the distillery has been named as a 2024 Travellers’ Choice Award Winner by Trip Advisor.

The distillery has been named among the top 10 per cent of things to do worldwide.

The announcements come as the distillery, located in the heart of the Donegal Gaeltacht, is celebrating its second year in business.

Located at the old Crolly doll factory, the historic building was constructed in 1901 and has been completely transformed as part of a €1.3 million refurbishment supported by Údarás na Gaeltachta, transforming new life to the former factory to a distillery and state-of-the-art visitor centre for specialist whiskey tours and tastings.

The distillery is owned by three local buisnessmen, Joe Devenney, Conor McMenamin and Kieran Davies.

Thousands of people have crossed the doors of the distillery, a restored historic stone building constructed in 1901, since it opened its doors including none other than James Bond actor, Pierce Brosnan.

The Hollywood star was accompanied by his mother, May Brosnan, to the distillery and he even got to hand bottle his personalised Croithlí Irish Single Malt Whiskey at cask strength.

The team at Croithlí Distillery are passionate about creating innovative and boutique whiskeys from a variety of mash bills and wood maturation that will generate excited anticipation amongst whiskey connoisseurs.

Built among the hills of Donegal, close to the Atlantic Ocean, the location of the distillery beside the Crolly River was carefully selected. It is thought to maintain the ideal conditions for slowly aging high-quality, single malt Irish whiskey.

The distillery houses ex-cognac copper pot stills and takes a ‘grain to glass’ approach.

The founders say that they will rely on three simple, quality ingredients to produce the finest organic spirit: West Donegal spring water, East Donegal home grown barley and yeast strains of the highest quality.

Double distilling their whiskey with direct fire, Croilthí Distillery is a touch above the rest.

A visit to Croilthí Distillery will provide you with an up close experience of whiskey making and hear stories of the distillery’s rich history.

The distillery provides an hour-long tour experience every hour, on the hour, which finishes with a whiskey tasting session. Equipped with a bar serving a range of cocktails, wines and craft beers, there is most definitely a tipple to suit all palates.

Whether you’re looking for a bar or a coffee shop, interested in taking one of the first-class tours or sampling some whiskey, Croillthí Distillery provides it all.

Private experiences are also available in request, so why not book online today or give the team a call? A warm welcome and a fascinating experience await all.
