CRIBS collected from all around the globe are on display in St Eunan’s Church in Raphoe creating a seasonal and unusual exhibition.
The bulk of the diverse, 51-strong Exhibition of Cribs, were purchased by a local man who was more than happy to share them with the local community.
Fr Eamonn Kelly, Parish Priest in Raphoe explained to the Donegal News yesterday how the unusual exhibition came to be staged.
“A man I know used to live in the USA and he sent home a crib one year to his mother who lived locally. His mother talked a lot about the crib and the joy it brought her so he continued to send her cribs from all across the globe every year.
“Sadly his mother has since died and it was very emotional for him to see the whole collection together.
“There is a crib made from coal and they come from so many different countries including Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Mexico, Malawi and numerous other places. I had six cribs which I added to the display. It is a lovely display to see and lots of people are visiting and talking about them.
“They show that the story of Christmas is the same all across the world, in multiple different cultures,” Fr Eamonn added.
The ‘Exhibition of Cribs’ will be present until after January 6 and St Eunan’s Church, Raphoe is open daily from 9am until 6pm.
