Rafael Cretaro has officially returned to Finn Harps for the 2020 season ahead of the opening day of the Airtricity League season on Friday evening.
The 38-year-old League of Ireland veteran had originally planned to retire after aiding the men from Ballybofey to survivial in Ireland’s top flight last year. However, he has put pen to paper for another year of action in the North West. He will likely be in the framework as Ollie Horgan finalises his plans for the visit of Cretaro’s former club Sligo Rovers to Ballybofey on Friday.
Ex-Sligo, Bohemians and Galway United man Cretaro is heading into his 21st season of senior football, starting his career and becoming a legend for Friday’s derby-day opponents
Last year’s number ten spoke of his excitement for the upcoming campaign. “At the end of the season I wasn’t sure whether to go or not. I kept in contact with Ollie over the break and he’s a great man for persuading you and giving you the confidence in your ability to go out and perform. It didn’t take much mind you, I’m delighted to be back for another year”.
Ollie Horgan expressed his happiness in retaining the wily attacker.
“Look you can’t deny Raf’s quality and what he can give us. He played a big role in our survival last year and I’m happy he’s decided to comeback for us for another season. Some thanks must also go to the members 500 club for their backing in helping the squad come together.”
Finn Harps will welcome neighbours Sligo Rovers to Finn Park at 8pm on Friday for the start of the Airtricity League season.
