Raffaele Cretaro missed an injury-time penalty, as Finn Harps drew with Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds tonight to pick up their first point in ten league games.

The Sligo striker was given a glorious opportunity to win the match at the death, but he couldn’t convert his spot-kick.

There wasn’t much between the sides in the first half, although the Harps players felt they should have had a penalty when Ryan Curran went down in the box in the 27th minute under the challenge of Sligo goalkeeper Ciaran Negent.

Sligo came close to breaking the deadlock 13 minutes later, when Daniel Kearns’ corner fell to Achille Campion in the box, but he failed to convert from two yards, with Richard Brush making a fine save.

The sides were level at the break, but Ollie Horgan’s Harps made a super start to the second period.

Tobi Adebayo-Rowling almost chested into his own net, before Sean Houston had two efforts cleared off the line.

Campion went close again in the 70th minute with a swerving shot, while at the other end, Michael Funston’s powerful drive went narrowly wide.

The game looked like it was going to peter out, but then Sligo were awarded a 91st minute penalty when Ethan Boyle fouled Craig Roddan.

Cretaro took responsibility but he blazed his effort over the bar. Houston went close late on with a header, but Harps were more than happy to settle for a much-needed point.
