Creeslough Appeal funds exceed €1 million

EFFORTS to raise funds for the families of those who have lost loved ones or were injured in the devastating explosion in Creeslough are underway.

As of yesterday almost €400,000 has been raised online after a GoFundMe page was set up by Ards native Gerard McFadden.

In an update on the page, he said words could not express what the money raised so far means to him and the people of Creeslough.

He had initially set a target of €20,000 but donations have been flooding in as more details emerged about the tragedy which claimed the lives of ten people.

The Applegreen company has made an initial donation of €50,000 to the Creeslough Support Fund.

The Creeslough Community Support Fund has been established by the Irish Red Cross in collaboration with An Post and Applegreen to provide rapid and long-term assistance to the Cleeslough community.

All donations to this fund will be dedicated to the support of those who have been bereaved, injured, made homeless, or left without an income as a result of the tragedy. So far, €673,000 has been raised.

Charlie Lamson in the Irish Red Cross said: “The public overwhelming outpouring of support for Creeslough has once again illustrated that when called on, the Irish public are incredibly generous.

“As a next step we will be engaging with the local community in Creeslough to coordinate the allocation of this support to the people who need it,” he said.
