THE newly elected chairperson of Donegal ETB, Cllr Donal Coyle, said it’s an honour and a privilege to hold the chain of office on the board.

Cllr Coyle was elected at Monday’s meeting of Donegal ETB in Letterkenny and replaces outgoing chairperson Cllr. Michael McBride whose term has come to an end.

Cllr Rena Donaghey takes over as deputy chairperson from Patsy McVicar.

Cllr Coyle, a native of Fanad, lives in Letterkenny and is a retired primary school teacher and principal having taught at Scoil Cholmcille NS in Letterkenny and St Bridget’s National School in Convoy.

He told Monday’s meeting that he was proud to be elected chairperson.

“When you consider that I come from a very rural area in Fanad and went to a small two teacher Gaeltacht school at Cashel NS in Fanad, it’s great that this opportunity has come my way,” he said.

“I hope that I will be worthy of the trust that all of you have put in me.”

Cllr. Coyle praised the ETB’s administrative staff and also the teaching and ancillary staff at its schools who have helped ensure that the organisation continues to make great strides.

He’s also chairperson of the board of management at Errigal College in Letterkenny.

“One of the big ambitions that I have for my term as chair of the ETB would be to see real progress in the new build for Errigal College,” he said.

The new deputy chairperson, Cllr. Donaghey said she is happy to take on the role, a position she has held before.

“It’s a great honour and a great privilege to be selected and elected,” she said.

“I have served in this role before and I am delighted to do it again.”
