International travel is set to become easier for people in the North West following confirmation that Covid-19 testing for passengers passing through Donegal Airport is set to start within days.
Medel Healthcare have joined forces with Donegal Airport to bring RT-PCR Covid 19 testing and Covid 19 Antibody testing to the Northwest Region.
From Sunday you are required to have a Pre Departure travel clearance certificate whether travelling from or to orange and red listed countries as we adopt the European traffic light system.
All passengers arriving from an ‘orange’, ‘red’ or ‘grey’ region, can stop restricting their movement if they get a negative or not detected PCR test taken a minimum of five days after arrival in Ireland.
Medel Healthcare Manager Thomas Browne said they were delighted to offer their services to Donegal Airport for the coming festive and spring seasons.
“We have liaised with our lab over the past week to ensure logistically we can achieve results within the 72 hour window essential for passengers.
“I am extremely happy to announce that local personel wishing to avail of our services are quite welcome to book either services we provide also.
“We feel it’s important to initiate ways the Aviation and Travel industries can get back on their feet with everyone looking to 2021 with the hope normality is on the horizon,” he said.

Donegal Airport Manager Eilis Docherty said there is a growing demand for travel related Covid testing.
“We have been keen to ensure that a test facility is available within our own region. The facility is fully open to the public, whether they need a test for travel, or any other reason and with ample free parking available onsite our facilities are ideal for use,” she said.
